Jaclyn Bowen - General Manager, Quality Assurance International
Jaclyn Bowen is the general manager of Quality Assurance International. Under her leadership, QAI launched certification to the NSF/ANSI 305 "Contains Organic Ingredients" standard, established QAI's operations in Canada, and achieved ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems accreditation.
Jackie's experience in lean production and operational efficiency has streamlined QAI's certification process. Jackie's previous role was with NSF International, overseeing the development and review of American National Standards to protect and improve food and drinking water safety.
Jackie has a master's degree in management and policy from the University of Michigan, a master's degree in quality from Eastern Michigan University's College of Engineering Technology, and a bachelor's degree in environmental biology from Michigan State University.
Joe Smillie - Senior Vice President, Quality Assurance International
Joe Smillie is the senior vice president of Quality Assurance International, where he is involved with operations, government regulatory affairs, and international business development.
Joe has been involved in the organic industry since 1975 and is a founder and past president of the Organic Trade Association. In January 2006, he was appointed by Congress to the National Organic Standards Board to serve a five-year term as the certification representative. Joe is a recognized authority on all aspects of organic production, National Organic Program (NOP) regulations and international trade. He is the co-author of Soul of the Soil - A Soil-Building Guider for Master Gardeners and Farmers (Chelsea Green Publishing, 1999). He is fluent in three languages. Joe holds a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of education degree from Queens University in Ontario, Canada.
Kasey Moctezuma, Senior Certification Project Manager for EU/Canada/Quebec Certification Programs, Quality Assurance International
Kasey Moctezuma is the EU/Canada/Quebec specialist and senior certification project manager at Quality Assurance International. She also serves on the board of directors as a certifier representative for the Conseil des appellations reservées et des termes valorisants (CARTV) and formerly served on the board of directors of the Conseil des Appellations Agroalimentaires du Québec, both based in Montréal, Québec. She is fluent in five languages, with a working knowledge of five others.
Prior to QAI, Kasey worked for the International Trade Policy program at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. She also interned with the Department of Commerce office in Budapest, Hungary, where she was responsible for the standards and statistics sections of the Country Commercial Guide for Hungary.
Kasey holds a master's degree in international trade policy from the Monterey Institute of International Studies. She holds a bachelor's degree in French and international studies from California State University, East Bay. She is a contributing author of Consistent incorporation of Professional Terminologies into the World's Languages: The Linguistic Engine of a Global Culture (Editor Michel Gueldry, Mellen Press Publications, Fall 2010).
Mandy Anhalt - Certification Project Manager for JAS Organic Certification Program, Quality Assurance International
Mandy Anhalt is the certification project manager for Japan's JAS organic certification program and is the main contact for Asia-related topics at Quality Assurance International. Prior to QAI, Mandy worked for the federal government as an Agricultural Specialist regulating the importation of commercial agriculture shipments entering the US. She has aslo worked with the ethnically diverse farming community in Hawaii as an Entomologist specializing in disease transmission and sound farming practices. Mandy received her MS and BS in Entomology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and still has close ties with the University.
